A recipe for loneliness

How do you feel about being alone?

It’s been found that the amount of time you spend alone does not necessarily relate to how lonely you feel. Some people who spent very little time alone reported high loneliness, but others who were often alone did not always report high loneliness. Interesting right?

Eating alone, in public, is a taboo subject but perhaps it should be seen as an act of self love. It’s a chance to practice the art of mindfulness and focus on the food in front of you.

I used to absolutely hate eating alone in public but now I not only enjoy a meal alone but I often head to a pub on a sunny afternoon to read a book. I wish everyone felt comfortable doing this so here’s a recipe for my favourite meal to eat alone!

One serve salad 


  • Mixed leaves 
  • Sprouts of choice 
  • Cornichons 
  • Tuna 
  • Avocado 
  • Olives 
  • Roasted butternut squash, cubed. 
  • Lemon tahini dressing 

Mash the avocado into the tuna (trust me) before adding all the remaining ingredients into a large bowl. Drizzle with the dressing and enjoy alone.
